Meeting Minutes for January 2016

The January 2016 meeting was called to order at 7:03 PM by club President Kevin Stremlau. He welcomed an enthusiastic crowd of 51 members and 5 guests. The guests tonight were Rich Doro, Larry Kluge, Larry & Diana Mooney, and Dan Gove. Welcome all and hope you come back. Kevin reminded everyone that the new website is running smoothly and encouraged everyone to check it out, especially a week before the monthly meetings to read over the newsletter. Kevin stated that in the past year we have grown as a club and accomplished much – new name tags were purchased, a new screen and projector were purchased, a new website was developed and 3 new board members were elected. Our main goal is to do well and have fun!! He wished Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary to all members who are celebrating in January. In the future, the birthdays and anniversaries will be on the screen prior to the meeting & will not be read during the meeting. They are also published on the website and show on the club calendar. If there are any errors, please notify Moe.

Secretary’s Report – The December 14, 2015 meeting minutes as printed in the Newsletter were reviewed with no corrections. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept.

Treasurer’s Report – MICC Treasurer, Mourina Sweet, gave the report for November 30, 2015 thru December 31, 2015 including a detailed breakdown of all transactions. A copy was passed around for all members to review. There were no questions. A motion was made, and seconded. Treasurer report accepted as presented.

Activities – Activities Chairman Jim Gehrig reported on a survey that members submitted last month. With results from 18 members, 67% like the car show, 94% like to eat, & 83% prefer week-end trips. 50% stated they would sponsor an activity. The 1st club activity of the year was a “Meet & Eat” at Kep’s before the meeting tonight. There were 36 in attendance, and was well received. It gave the members a chance to chat before the meeting & meet new people. Jim will set these up in the future before all club meetings. In addition to being a benefit for the members, he received a check from Kep’s for $200.00 for St Jude, well done Jim!! There is a Meet & Eat on January 17th at Avanti’s to show you how to use the new website on your phone, tablet, or laptop. There are several Meet & Eats planned – Jan 30th at Sky Harbor, Feb 8th at Kep’s before the monthly meeting, Feb 14th Valentine’s Day at the Lariat, and Feb 27th at Sazani’s. There were sign-up sheets for all of these events, and Jim will also send notices out. Jim also gave a brief talk about a 3 day trip from June 10-12 to the Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH. Plans are not firm yet, but he did promise shopping for the ladies. He also talked about the possibility of a short trip in July to Bowling Green to tour the assembly plant & the National Corvette Museum – he is still working out details on that trip.

Membership – Tracy Adamson reported that she had done a mass e-mailing of the membership directory to everyone. If you are unable to print, Tracy will print off a copy for you. We had 4 new members join tonight: Larry & Diana Mooney and Dan & Marguerite Gove. Our current membership is now 142 with 80 households.

Newsletter – Mourina reported that the newsletter will be printed in Feb & March, then only a few copies will be printed for those not having an e-mail address (there are currently 10), along with copies for Uftring’s for their customers. If there is anything you would like put in the newsletter, please send it to Mourina by the 25th of the month.

Webmaster – Michael Moore complemented Jim and his grandson Trey for the work on the new website, and Kevin reiterated thanks to all those involved in getting it running.

Governor’s Report – Governor Sandy Arnold has her next NCCC meeting on Feb 27th. Her reports will be on the website.

Program – VP John Steffen asked if anyone had any ideas or suggestions for program topics to let him know. Kevin stated that we will have 2-3 programs per year since our objective is to keep the meetings short giving more time for socialization.

Old Business – Sue McMorris stated we still have 1 Dining Book available. John Morris bought the remaining book. New dining books will be available in August. This has been a good fundraiser for us, enabling us to increase our donation to the St Jude Drive.

Michael Moore asked about business calling cards – Kevin stated that they are always available on the welcome table & encouraged everyone to take some. He also suggested signing the card on the back so they have a contact person if they are interested in our club.

New Business – The proposed 2016 Budget was passed out. Kevin explained it is a proposal only & not set in stone. We will have the expense for the new website, non-profit registration, new name tags for new members, supplies etc, but we should still be in good shape. If we have extra money, we can always increase our donations. Kevin asked for a motion to approve the budget. Bruce Adamson made a motion and Bob Patten seconded it. Kevin stated that the car show is self-sustained. Gary Uftring commented “Well done”. Kevin asked that if there was no further discussion, with the understanding that the baseline proposal can be re-evaluated, a vote was taken to accept the proposed budget as presented. Greater than 2/3 approved, the budget was passed as proposed.

The club will continue to sponsor 5 charities: St Jude Drive Sponsorship, St Jude Runners, St Jude Ride, Pleasant Hill Kids Shoe Fund, and Salvation Army Bell Ringing. For the Bell Ringing there is no cost involved, but volunteer participation. A motion to approve the 5 charities was made by Sandy Arnold and seconded by Garwin Shane. A vote was taken and motion was approved.

Pam Kimble asked how much was raised by the Bell Ringers. John Morris said they hadn’t reported to him yet, but he would let us know.

Jim Becker asked if the condolences procedure had been addressed. Kevin stated that a committee had been formed and would be meeting to evaluate the by-laws and procedures. The committee includes Bob Hoffer, Kevin Stremlau, Mike & Sandy Arnold, and Harry & Mourina Sweet.

Mourina asked everyone to start working on the car show. She also asked everyone to take the flyers she had made up, pass them out or mail to anyone who could provide sponsorship. Contact her if you need more. John Morris said that we could have our information for the car show on the National Corvette Museum calendar for free. It can also be posted on the NCCC calendar.

Announcements – Mourina reminded club members that the first meeting for the St. Jude Corvette Drive is February 16, 2016 at Uftring in Washington. New drivers please come at 5:00 pm, all others at 6:00 pm.

We still need pictures for 20+ members with their cars.

Trivia and 50/50 – Trivia question: In 2005 how many Corvettes were made in the color called “Monterey Red”?

A) 600 B) 700 C) 800 D) 900

The correct answer was B) 700 and was worth $20. No one answered correctly, next month trivia will be worth $30.

The 50/50 drawing was for $61.00 tonight and was won by Pam Kimble. Pam donated it back to the shoe fund. Thank you Pam!

Adjournment – A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:16 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,

Marilyn Carls
