Meeting Minutes for February 2016

The February 2016 meeting was called to order at 7:04 PM by Club President Kevin Stremlau. There were 39 members and 3 guests present. The guests tonight were Ed & Barb Saari from Corvette Adventures and Craig Curry. Welcome all!! Kevin talked about the Rolex 24 hour race at Daytona which opened the racing season. The Corvettes placed 1st & 2nd. The teams are comprised of 3 drivers, each driving 722 laps for a total of 2,570 miles. Each driver made 25 pit stops with 0 mistakes – impressive!! Kevin reminded everyone of the upcoming St. Jude Corvette Drive on May 12 & 13. It has been a huge success the last 4 years – raising a total of $323,000 with $120,000 raised last year alone. The 1st St Jude Drive meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 16th at Uftring’s starting at 5:00 PM for 1st time drivers and at 6:00 PM for all others. He wished Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary to all members celebrating in February. In the future, the birthdays and anniversaries will be on the screen prior to the meeting & will not be read during the meeting. They are also published on the website and show on the club calendar. If there are any errors, please notify Tracy Adamson.

Secretary’s Report – The January 2016 meeting minutes as printed in the Newsletter were reviewed with no corrections. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept.  

Treasurer’s Report  – MICC Treasurer, Mourina Sweet, gave the report for December 31, 2015 including a detailed breakdown of all transactions. A copy was passed around for all members to review. There were no questions. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept as presented.

Activities – Activities Chairman, Jim Gehrig, handed out the schedule of events planned for the year with those in yellow indicating an overnight stay, starting with the St. Jude Drive in May. Corvette Adventures is planned for June, Bowling Green in July, Quad Cities in August, the Air Force Museum in September, and St Louis Botanical Gardens in September. The next Meet & Eat is at the Lariat on Valentine’s Day. There is still time to sign up if you can join us. Jim will continue to send invites out to all the events in addition to having the sign-up sheets at the meetings.    

Membership – Sandy Arnold filled in for Tracy Adamson who was absent. We had one new member, Larry Kluge, who joined tonight. That brings our total membership to 144 in 78 households. Remember that the member list will NOT be on the website due to privacy issues.

Newsletter – Mourina reported that the newsletter will be printed in March. After March, only a few copies will be printed for those not having an e-mail address, along with copies for Uftring’s for customers to review. If there is anything you would like put in the newsletter, please send it to Mourina by the 25th of the month. The condolences will also be shown on the screen before the meetings in addition to any cars that people may have for sale.

Webmaster  – JimGehrig asked how many had gone to the new website and the response was good. Jim will continue to populate it with the updated calendar, pictures from the club events, and any other pictures that members send to him of them with their cars. It is the intent that we have pictures of all members. 

Governor’s Report – Governor Sandy Arnold has her next NCCC meeting on Feb 27th. Her reports will be on the website. She also asked that if you have the Winter 2016 issue of Blue Bars that you don’t want she would like to have it. There are issues with the online version and Sandy will pass the extra copies on to other clubs who have not received online copies.

Program – VP John Steffen was absent, but Jim Gehrig asked Ed & Barb Saari from Corvette Adventures to give a presentation about the events planned for June 8th thru the 12th at the Chula Vista Resort at Wisconsin Dells. Ed outlined the different events that are available and gave a brief description of what they have to offer. There are scenic drives, spirited drives, mystery drives, boat rides, dinner cruises, cocktail tours – Ed explained it is the only weekend event devoted to driving & having FUN. It is a 4 day event, but you can sign up for as much or as little as you want to do. Reservations need to be made in advance. There are NO vendors at the event, but last year there were almost 300 Corvettes from 15 states & Canada. On Saturday morning there will be a police escorted parade through the downtown area with parking available so you can enjoy the “Taste of the Dells” which will be going on the same weekend. At the end of the presentation, Ed & Barb had a drawing for a chance to win the $80 registration fee prize – Kevin & Luanne won!!

Old Business – There was no old business.

New Business – There was no new business. 

Announcements – Mourina reminded club members that the first meeting for the St. Jude Corvette Drive is February 16, 2016 at Uftring’s in Washington. New drivers please come at 5:00 pm, all others at 6:00 pm. 

There will be a Bell Ringer Award Ceremony Appreciation reception at 5:45 on Friday, February 12th.   
Trivia and 50/50 – Trivia question: What year was there only one Corvette built??  

A) 1979     B) 1981     C) 1983    D) 1985.  The correct answer was C) 1983 and was worth $30. Bernie Meegan answered correctly and donated his winnings to the shoe fund. Thank you Bernie!

The 50/50 drawing was $61.00 tonight and was won by Jody Lawrence, who donated her winnings back to the shoe fund. Thank you Jody!

Kevin reminded members that there are lanyards for sale for $5 each, and wristbands are $3 each or 2/$5.

Adjournment – A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:07 PM.
