The May 9, 2016 meeting was called to order at 7:02 PM by club President Kevin Stremlau. There were 59 members and 1 guest present. The guest tonight was Dan Hittinger. Welcome all!! Kevin reminded us that we all have challenges in life, but think about the kids of St. Jude who have daily challenges – some big, some small, and that is why we support the St. Jude kids!! THE CAR SHOW, the perfect way to show our support for the kids. He challenged all of us to enter our Corvettes in the show – if there are 50 Corvettes, he will personally donate $100 to St. Jude; if there are 100 Corvettes entered, he will donate $200!! He wished Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary to all members who are celebrating in May, especially Carrie & David Dintleman who are celebrating 25 years together, and to Laurie & John Hanson and Sandy & Mike Arnold who are celebrating 40 years.
Secretary’s Report – The April 2016 meeting minutes as printed in the Newsletter were reviewed with no corrections. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept.
Treasurer’s Report – MICC Treasurer, Mourina Sweet, gave the report for March 31, 2016 including a detailed breakdown of all transactions. A copy was passed around for all members to review. There were no questions. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept as presented. The balances in the accounts will no longer be printed in the newsletter; if anyone has any questions you can contact Mourina.
Activities – Activities Chairman, Jim Gehrig, is considering another meet-n-eat to re-educate members on the new website. Jim gave a rundown of future activities: The St. Jude Peoria to Memphis Drive on Thursday, May 12th. The Louie Louie Parade is Friday, May 27th with the Car Show the next day, May 28th. There are sign-up sheets for those wanting to donate or help. The Metro Center Car show is Saturday, June 4th with a meet-n-eat at Burge Barge. The Autocross in Taylor, MO, which we are a sponsor of, is June 5th and six people are needed to help. Corvette Adventures is from June 8th – 12th, Autocross in Rantoul is June 18th, and Bloomington Gold starts on June 23rd. Kevin mentioned that there are still 7 rooms left for Fri & Sat, get with him if you need more information. The Bowling Green trip is July 21st – 23rd, there are currently only 10 signed up with the cutoff for attending at next month’s meeting. The Quad Cities/Circa 21 trip is August 13. Vettes on the River is August 27th. Jim reminded everyone that plans to go to Bowling Green or the Quad cities to call and reserve your hotel room, and also to pay Moe for the factory tour/box lunch, and the Circa 21 tickets. Pricing for all the events will be on the invite you get from Jim, and will NOT be printed in the newsletter or on the web. Check the calendar for all upcoming events, and those still in the planning stage.
Membership – Tracy Adamson emailed the member directory since the last meeting. Let Tracy know if there are any changes or if you need a copy. We had 2 new members join: Dan & Sherie Hittinger, bringing our total membership to 154 in 87 households.
Newsletter – None.
Webmaster – Jim had a laptop running with pictures of the members and their cars taken before recent trips. Jim will be getting 8 x 10 prints made for each person/couple with a suggested $5.00 donation.
Governor’s Report – Governor Sandy Arnold reported that the club is sponsoring 2 autocross racing events this year and needs workers for both of them. She needs 6 people to work on June 5th at West Quincy, and 6 people to work on June 18th at Rantoul. If you can help, please let her know. At her latest NCCC meeting, St. Jude was voted to receive their support for the new raffle program. Tickets are $50 each with a limit of 2,000 tickets being sold. The winning ticket is a certificate valued at $54,000 towards a new Corvette or a cash offer of $40,000. Tickets will be available at Bloomington Gold. Sandy also reminded us to sign up for Vettes on the River on August 27 – $15 if you pre-register, after July 29 registration will be $20.
Program – Sara Stokes was our guest this evening and did a presentation on the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The foundation, which is 90% volunteers, grants wishes for children ranging in age from 2 – 19. A big misconception is that they only grant wishes for cancer patients; however, any child with a life threatening medical condition is eligible. They will be sponsoring the “I spy a Wish” on July 16. For $75 per car/team, you will drive a scavenger hunt including 8 stops and return to Uftring’s for a wrap-up party. What a fun way to support the cause! At this point, they have more money than has been requested for wishes, so if you know of any child or young adult who qualifies pass on the word.
Old Business – None.
New Business – John Haase knows of someone who has 2 tires for the back of a C6, contact John if interested.
Announcements – Kevin reminded everyone to check the MICC website & calendar frequently as changes are made often – adding new pictures, updating events, etc. There is still a need for volunteers for the car show on May 28th. Help is needed for set up, managing the registration table, handing out goodie bags, helping entrants get set up in the parking lot, and finally to count the votes. At 2:00 there will be the trophy presentation, after which help is needed to tear down. After a full day, everyone gathers at a local eatery to wind down (get it? – set up, wind down). Thank you notes were read from the 2 Uftring employees undergoing treatment – they are extremely thankful for the outpouring of support. John Haase reported that both of the young men are doing well, but still have a long road of recovery. Kevin reminded everyone of the suggestion box if there are concerns that need to be addressed. Also, it is not too late to make a donation for the St. Jude Drive – donations for this year’s drive will be accepted until June 30. It was also mentioned that Chevy announced a $2,000 loyalty incentive for those purchasing Corvettes, excluding the Z06.
Trivia and 50/50 – Trivia question: On October 7, 1953 a Corvette with VIN #51 was delivered to a Hollywood actor. It is currently on display at the National Automobile Museum (formerly the Harrah’s Collection) in Reno, Nevada. Who was the Actor?? A) James Stewart B) John Wayne C) Henry Fonda. The correct answer was B) John Wayne and was worth $10. Dale Nelson answered correctly and donated it back to the shoe fund. Thanks Dale!
The 50/50 drawing was for $58.00 tonight and was won by Harry Sweet, who donated it back to the shoe fund. Thank you Harry!
Adjournment – A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:08 PM.
